Camper Trailer Tent Perth

Camper Trailer Tent Perth – History

In March 2010, my wife and I were researching Camper Trailer Tents to buy.

There were packages from the Eastern States that cost too much to freight to Perth. There were different sizes, thickness of canvas, optional extras etc, etc.

Finally found the Camper Trailer Tent we wanted but they didn’t sell the trailer. I asked for a bit of discount and the owner only offered $100 off.

By now its winter and I decided to do further research. Our search soon lead us to China, where the majority of Camper Trailer Tents are made and the pricing seemed a lot cheaper, although I know nothing about importing tents from China…

In the meantime I found a local trailer manufacturer who was open to my ideas about the shape, size and accessories I want out of a trailer, and the ball got rolling. My first experience in dealing with China was a learning curve to say the least. Thankfully I had an agent based in China, who checked out the factory before I placed an order, oversaw the quality and craftsmanship and followed up with an inspection before loading the Camper Trailer Tents on the ship.

Camper Trailer Tent Perth – Features

So what was important to me when buying a Camper Trailer Tent?

  • I am 6 foot 3 inches, so I wanted a King Size Mattress. Even if you are not a string bean like me, the extra room means more air flow and cooler sleeping conditions.
  • I suffer from a bad back when camping in our old dome tent on the blow up mattress so I ordered a 12cm Thick Mattress, instead of the standard 8cm that comes with a zip off, washable, cotton mattress cover.
  • 14oz Rip Stop Canvas for the Roof and the Walls totalling approximately 18sqm of living space that fits on a 7*4 trailer
  • I wanted to have the ability to set up the Camper Trailer, without the Annex or to put up one side as a wind protector, or 2 sides for a bit of extra privacy, or three sides if to keep the flies out. So I ordered a 3 Piece Removable Annex
  • I wanted big windows for good airflow in the hot conditions and Weather Shields if it was raining. The weather shields are great because they allow the air in whilst the window is open, keeping the inside of the tent dry.
  • It comes with an Annex floor that is attached to the 3 Annex walls with Velcro to keep the bugs out
  • The standard steel poles for your Annex and the ability to convert your windows into awnings along with a very light steel ladder to access your bed
  • The PVC puncture proof flooring in the main tent section is 450g/sqm that is raised up 10cm from the ground. This will ensure that moisture is kept away from the canvas which is very important when camping on uneven ground
  • There are 2 Hatches under the mattress is Marine Ply that has been coated on the top and bottom with hinges so you can access the inside of your trailer without having to go outside
  • I lashed out and ordered Dust Covers with Zip & Velcro that is 600g/sqm PVC to ensure it can handle the red dust from the great Australian outback.
  • Lastly and what I believe the most important is that the Camper Trailer Tent comes with two Gas Struts which makes it Easy to erect. My wife loves camping and any chance, whilst I’m playing cricket, she’s off! I wanted to make sure that the Camper Trailer Tent could be opened easily by my wife and the Gas Struts allow that.
  • We would rather spend more time relaxing than spending hours setting up the Camper Trailer Tent and with the Gas Struts we can have the main area, without the Annex, set up in less than 5 minutes, great for when you try and get away on a Friday afternoon and land at night…
  • And more… free repair kit, ‘U’ shape zip for easy access to the trailer from inside the tent, large ‘D’ shape doors etc, etc

The best Camper Trailer Tent that my wife and I could find in Perth in March 2010 retailed for $2,650 and it didn’t have a 3 piece removable awning, the flooring didn’t come up 100mm for better water proofing and the roof was 13oz Rip Stop Canvas instead of 14oz like the tents I have imported.

My first batch of Camper Trailer Tents I imported sold within 6 weeks! The main reason for this is because the quality was there and the price was less than $2,000.

Since then I have upgraded some of the features of the tent and been able to maintain the same low price because the Australian Dollar being so high has helped my import costs.

Camper Trailer Tent Perth - Set Up
For me personally, I prefer to fit the Tent directly to the Trailer. There are 4 very good reasons why:
  • Less wear and tear on the rubber seal in between the Tent and the Trailer
  • Less moving parts (gas struts inside the trailer) that may need fixing or replacing as they can easily be damaged if your stuff moves around inside the trailer
  • Less chance of putting my back out! I mentioned earlier that I suffer a bit with lower back problems. When loading a full crate of anything then having to bend over the edge of the trailer and lean away from my body is a recipe for a bad lifting technique
  • Loss of storage. The gas struts on the inside of the trailer take up precious space.

To have gas struts that allow you to lift the Camper Trailer Tent up off the Trailer so you can access what is inside may look cool or sound like a good idea but I feel that it is a waste of money but the choice is yours.

Camper Trailer Tent Perth – Expansion

Because I sold my first load of Camper Trailer Tents that imported from China I had to expand my business premises and do it fast.

This led me to building a business partnership with one of WA’s leading trailer makers. They had the space required to handle a larger shipment and for those who want to buy a Camper Tent & trailer package it can now all be done in the one spot. This has been a huge benefit for my business but more importantly for all of my clients. It means you have one point of contact before, during and after the purchase.

You can design a tent trailer that is perfectly built for the Camper and you have options depending on your budget and desires. You can purchase a tent trailer that is suited for a standard 4 or 6 cylinder car, an SUV or a 4WD.  The tent trailers are made from solid welded construction built right here in WA that can handle any condition the Australian Outback throws at us.

The other benefit from this business partnership is that I can now pass on exclusive discounts to ensure that you can get out there camping within your budget.
